Dance Xpressionz

is a 15yrs old professional dance company that stands as one of biggest brand in dancehall dance in Jamaica. The Artistic director and senior members of the group are all graduates of the ECC Exed Community College school of performing where they all graduated with an associate degree in performing arts majoring in dance and minor in drama.

The groups birthday was in September 2000 while students at the college where they entered school dance festivals and excelled for over 5 years winning every major award.

In 2006 the group took it to the streets of Jamaica with one intention and that was to elevate the face of dancehall dance that was seen by society as street dance that had no place in a corporate, institution or international space. The groups artistic director Orville Hall saw the opportunity to add choreography to the genre and without taking away from the repeatative nature of the dance he would do just enough for it to be acceptable on all platforms as a dance that can be presented at the highest and most professional level. Since then the group has risen to the top of the dancehall dance list and remains the top dancehall dance group in Jamaica, they have won over a dozen awards from most outstanding dance group to best international dancers. Three of the 4 founding members have been  representing  Jamaica for the last 4yrs doing lectures and workshops all over the world.

In 2007 the group created their premier piece entitled “Dance Evolution” that traces the evolution of the Jamaican music and dance from our traditional folk forms to present today dancehall. The dancehall aspect of the show is truly unique based on the fact that since the emergence of dancehall in 1980 it has become much more than just a genre of music but a lifestyle that encompasses the music, dance, dress code, language and food.

Dance Xpressionz operates out of their own studio at 121 1/2 Constant Spring Road Kingston 10 Milbrook Plaza, they recently upgraded the studio to a multipurpose space where there is now a dance floor, chroma key green screen for video production a mini bar and massage room, the 1st of it’s kind in jamaica.
